Comedy returns to Upperthong Village Hall on Friday 5th May for the sixth Laugh-A-Thong and, once again, we have secured another four fantastic acts, all in Upperthong for the very first time.
Now best known to the world for his portrayal of ‘Joe’ in Ken Loach’s 2016 BAFTA winning film I, Daniel Blake, Newcastle’s Gavin Webster is famed and respected by his peers for his uncompromising and unusual approach, hard edged routines, quick-fire pastiche pieces, moronic jokes and sardonic songs. Gavin’s contributions to stand up over the last twenty years were recognised when he was voted Best Live Stand Up by fellow comedians and promoters in the 2014 UK Comedy Awards and we’re looking forward to his Upperthong debut.
‘Funny, clever and as brilliantly observed as you’ll find’ The Scotsman
Musical comedian Mitch Benn may not look that familiar but if you’re a fan of Radio 4’s ‘The Now Show‘ you’ll certainly recognise the voice as Mitch regularly performed alongside Steve Punt, Hugh Dennis and Marcus Brigstocke. He’s also a firm favourite with audiences as diverse as BBC1’s The One Show and Glastonbury Festival’s infamous comedy tent. Mitch also tours with his band Mitch Benn and The Distractions and we’re delighted he’s coming to Upperthong.
Boltonian Chris Kehoe is in the middle and your compere for the evening is Pete Otway who supported Justin Moorhouse here earlier in the year. £12.50 Doors 6.30pm. Show 8.30pm Very strong language. Acts subject to change. Over 18’s Fully licensed bar.
